CLAUDE DIXON On last Thursday the entire county was grieved to learn of the sad death of Mr. Claude Dixon which occurred that morning at 6:10 o'clock at the Peacock Hotel. Mr. Dixon had been seriously ill for sometime and his death was not unexpected. Nevertheless, his many friends were deeply pained to learn of his untimely end. Mr. Dixon was at the time of death, 56 years old and had always been a resident of this county. He was, without a doubt, one of the most popular citizens of Schley county, and we do not suppose he had an enemy in the world. He was ever ready to help a friend in need; ever ready to help in any public cause; and, in fact, was ever ready to do anything that he thought was right and honorable. Although undemonstrative, Mr. Dixon was a Christian and had been for quite a number of years a member of the Methodist church here. While he took no active part in the church work, he was always willing to do all in his power to further the cause of Christianity, and his church never called upon him but that he responded most generously. The funeral occurred Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. R.E. Bailey and Rev. R.F. Williamson officiating, and it was attended by a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. The interment was made in the Ellaville cemetery, and was conducted with Masonic honors. Mr. Dixon is survived by two brothers, Mr. L.W. Dixon, of LaCrosse and Mr. O.L. Dixon, of Americus and other relatives. Additional Comments: The date of death here is somewhat unclear. The marker in Ellaville cemetery states date of death as July 24, 1911.
