DYKES AT 10 A.M. Mrs. Fanny Dykes, 86, beloved Ellaville woman, died Wednesday night at 8:20 o'clock after a lingering illness. Stricken with paralysis four years ago, she had been ill, often critically, since that time. Funeral services will conducted from the residence this morning (Friday) 10 o'clock. Elder S.H. McCorkle will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. Hugh Dozier and the Rev. W.S. Johnson. Burial will be in Ellaville cemetery. Born in Macon county, January 2, 1854, she was the daughter of Josephine Edge English and William Simpson English. In 1874, she was married to William Warren Dykes of Schley county, a Confederate veteran of the War Between the States, who died in 1928. Mrs. Dykes was known and admired for her consecration to Christian principles of living, which inspired her full and unusually long life of service and gave her patience for the suffering which filled her last years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.H. Holloway and Miss Fanny Dykes, both of Ellaville; two sons, W.W. Dykes, Americus. and C.L. Dykes, Andersonville; one sister, Mrs. Anna Mackey, Junction City, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Georgia B. Perry, Ellaville; J.H. Holloway, Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; W.W. Dykes, Jr., New Orleans, La.; George Warren Dykes, Andersonville; Hawkins Dykes, Wingate Dykes and Maurice Dykes, all of Americus; six great grandchildren, Anne Dykes and William Dykes, III, both of New Orleans; Sara Dykes, Americus; Marianne Holloway, Atlanta; Mary Frances Perry and James William Perry, both of Ellaville. Pallbearers will be Hawkins Dykes, Wingate Dykes, George Warren Dykes, Horace Lumpkin. M.C. Hill and Heyward Johnson. Additional Comments: Her father was William Wallace English, not William Simpson English as the obituary states. 1940 was a leap year thus February had 29 days.
