H. Gilmore Passes Away at Rebecca Home As the paper goes to press, news reaches Ashburn of the death of Mrs. J. H. Gilmore of Rebecca, former Ashburn citizen. She died Wednesday morning around nine o'clock at the family home. Mrs. Gilmore has not been well for several months. She will be buried this afternoon, Thursday at 3 o'clock at the family lot in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mrs. Gilmore was the former Miss Fannie Murray, a sister of Mr. W. A. Murray. She was born in 1860 in Taylor county a daughter of Anthony Murray and Mary Harris Murray. She married Mr. J.H. Gilmore in 1880. They came to Ashburn and located about forty-four years ago and owned valuable suburban home and farm property: Here they reared their fine family of children and contributed their part in the building of Ashburn and Turner County. About twenty-five years ago, they moved to Rebecca where they built a home and bought farm property and continued their work and interest in Turner County in that growing town. Mrs. Gilmore was a loyal member of the Methodist church. She was a woman of fine ideals and loved her home and family. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Lillian Gilmore of Rebecca, Mrs. Grant Roberts of Alma, and two sons, Mr. Crawford Gilmore and Mr. Stewart Gilmore of Rebecca. Additional Comments: Mr. W.A. Murray was William Anthony Murray son of Anthony R. Murray and Mary A.J. Morris. He had only one sister, Nancy Frances Murray, same parents. Therefore, I believe the statement that Fannie Murray Gilmore's mother was Mary Harris Murray is in error. I think it should be Mary Morris Murray. Mary Morris Murray was the first wife of my great-grandfather, Hamilton Henry Hill. Both of the children are found in the HH of Hamilton Henry Hill on the 1870 Taylor Co. census. They later lived with their court appointed guardian, William Daniel Murray (brother to Annthony R. Murray) in Schley Co.---Harris Hill File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/obits/g/gilmore12098ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb
