GREENE DIES AT SHELLMAN Charles J. Greene, 83, a native of Schley county and a prominent retired business man, died at his home in Shellman last Thursday, after a long illness. He was the last surviving nephew of Benjamin Harvey Hill, Georgia statesman and United States senator. Funeral services were held at Shellman Methodist church Saturday afternoon and were attended by many Schley county relatives and friends. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J.E. McGlaun, of Shellman, a son, Dr. Edgar Hill Greene, of Atlanta and a grandson, Edgar H. Greene, Jr., also of Atlanta. Mr. Greene was a prominent business man with farming interests in both Randolph and Schley counties. He was born in Schley county May 13, 1859. Frederick J. Greene and Mary Parham Hill Greene, pioneer residents of south Georgia, were his parents. Mr. Greene retired from active business and from his connection with the Railway Express Company in 1937. His service with this company had been continuous for a period of 42 years.
