Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 4, 2005 at 3:00 PM at Ellaville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Clarence Cawthorne, Rev. Brooks Partain and Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Mr. Hill was born in Schley County on April 11, 1918. He was the son of Otis Clyde Hill and Dorothy Cheney Hill. On March 31, 1946, he married Charline Callaway Hill, who survives him. Other survivors include a son, Robert Byron, Jr., of Ellaville; two daughters and son in law, Virginia Hill and Steve Austin, of Ellaville, and Cheney Hill Reinhart, of Americus. Three grandchildren include Alison Austin, Stephen Austin, and John Byron Reinhart. He was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Callaway Hill. Mr. Hill graduated from Gordon Military College, Barnesville, and the University of Georgia, Athens. He was a veteran of World War II, having served for five years in the European theatre as a Lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry. Mr, Hill was a large landowner, cattleman, and horseman. In the ‘50’s and ‘60’s he raised and trained registered quarter horses. His R. B. Hill Farms bred fine American Quarter Horse champions. His most famous stallion was “Eli Seiman”. Mr. Hill was also engaged in forestry and conservation. He was Soil Conservation Supervisor of the Chattahoochee Area and a Director of the Schley County Board of ASCS for 45 years. He was also a member of Ellaville United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a charter member of the Ellaville Lions Club and a member of American Legion Post 191. Pallbearers will include Jim Sellars, Joe Fletcher, Neal Synder, John Gill, Clarence Welch, Ray Wurtz, Henry Sellars, Eddie C. Baisden and Marc Ellis. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville, GA.
