R.E. HILL, 67, TAKEN BY DEATH

Prominent Local Man Stricken Suddenly

Final tribute was paid to R.E. Hill, 67 prominent Ellaville citizen who died 
unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, at funeral services conducted from Ellaville 
Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.  He would have reached his 
68th birthday this month.

Mr. Hill died shortly after 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon while he was 
sitting on a bench at McMichaels' Mill near Tazwell, talking with a group of 
persons.  He had been ill of heart trouble several days last week, but had 
been attending to his regular business affairs this week.

A native of Taylor county, Mr. Hill, active in business and civic activities, 
was one of Schley county's most valuable citizens. He had extensive farming 
interests and operated a merchantile store here.  He served on city council 
about 20 years, being a member of that body at the time of his death.

Mr. Hill was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

Elder Hassell McCorkle, pastor of Phillippi Primitive Baptist church, 
conducted the funeral being assisted by the Rev. L.T. Rogers, pastor of 
Ellaville Methodist church.  Burial was in the local cementery.

Surviving are his widow, Viola Hill, whom he married 45 (one line cut off) 
Morris Hill, both of ERllaville, and one daughter, Mrs. Paul Coffin, of 
Ellavilole, and three grandchildren, Jane Bobb and Byron Hill.

Active pallbearers were H.F. Dixon, S.W. Miles, R.E. Sullivan, W.T. Tondee, 
T.W. Wilson, and Robert Greene.  Honorary pallbearers were C.L. Battle, C.B. 
Johnson, H.W. Hogg, J.R. Wall, C.T. Rainey, C.S. Wall, J.H. Holloway, E.R. 
Jordan, A.A. Arrington and C.H. Burt.
