HIXON DEAD On last Saturday morning at about nine o'clock occurred the sad death of Mr. T.J. Hixon, one of Schley's most prominent citizens, and one of the few remaining Confederate Veterans of this county. Mr. Hixon had enjoyed excellent health up until a few hours prior to his death, and his many friend were shocked when they learned of his untimely end. The funeral services were held at his home at 3 o'clock, Rev. R.E. Bailey officiating. He was laid to rest in Ellaville cemetery. Additional Comments: (Transcriber's Note: Thomas J. Hixon served in Co. G, 5th Ga. Inf, the "Schley Guards". He enlisted May 11, 1861, was wounded Dec. 6, 1864, at the battle of Coosethatchee (South Carolina) and furloughed for 60 days on account of wounds. He was terribly wounded in the right thight which for most purposes made the right leg useless. He never returned to service.)
