MISS MARY HORNADY DIES IN 82ND YEAR
Miss Mary Crawford Hornady, well-known Schley county woman, died at her home 
in Andrew Chapel community last Friday morning at 2 o’clock after a long 
period of ill health.  She would have reached her 82nd birthday on June 2.  
Born in Andrew Chapel community on June 2, 1861, she was the daughter of Dr. 
Albert Crawford Hornady and Mrs. Sara E. Greene Hornady.  A former editor of 
the Schley County News at Ellaville, she also served as society editor of the 
Dawson news.  She also was postmistress here.  Miss Hornady was prominently 
identified with the Sara E. Hornady Chapter of the United Daughters of the 
Confederacy, named in honor of her mother.  She was a member of the Dawson 
chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.  She headed organization of 
the Woman’s Missionary Society at Andrew Chapel and was a past president of 
the Ellaville W.M.S.  Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. E.B. Hornady, of 
Ellaville; a niece, Mrs. J.P. Gilchrist and four great-nephews, jack Gilchrist 
of the Marines; Ed Billy and Gilbert Gilchrist, all of Andrew chapel; one 
great-niece, Margaret Gilchrist, of Andrew Chapel.  Funeral services were held 
at the residence Saturday morning at 10 o’clock with the Rev. Roy J. Bond 
officiating.  Burial was at Oak Grove cemetery, Americus.  Pallbearers were 
C.B. Strange, R.H. Strange, L.S. Tondee, R.S. Greene, O.C. Williamson and G.H. 
Greene.
