JOHNSON PASSES IN NINETY-FIRST YEAR Funeral services for Mr. G.W. Johnson, 90, were conducted from Shiloh Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. A lifelong citizen of Schley county, Mr. Johnson died Wednesday morning at 2:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter. Mrs. W.T. Robinson in Macon county. Death followed an extended illness. The Rev. W.W. Whatley officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Johnson would have reached his 91st birthday July 9. Born in Sumter county in 1848, he moved to Andrew Chapel community in Schley county when a young man and resided there most of his life. He was called to Confederate army duty as a guard at Andersonville prison in 1863 when he was only 15. He always contended reports of the suffering at the camp were exaggerated. Mr. Johnson began farming in Andrew Chapel community immediately after the war and in 1876 he married Miss America Elizabeth Riley of Sumter county. He united with the Methodist church when a young man. During recent years, he made his home with his three children, Mrs. Robinson, and two sons, Joe R. Johnson of Schley county and P.H. Johnson of Americus. Besides his children, he is survived by 17 grandchildren and one great grand child. Pallbearers were Lucius, Howard and Roy Johnson and Frank, Luther and Raymond Turner.
