J. Larkin A sad shock and a gloom of darkness spread over our community Friday morning the 18th of the month when the death angel visited the home of Mrs. J. J. Larkin and robbed her of her husband. One she had loved and had a bright and peaceful home with for many years. He was taken sick the 12th and was only spared until Friday morning about 4 o'clock. Though his time was short and we feel like his suffering was great. Although he bore it with patience, but after calling two physicians by his bedside and all medical aid could be given, there was nothing to restore him until Jesus our great Physician came and took him home with Him; be we feel like God's will must be done, not ours. Mr. Larkin was reared in Schley county and after his marriage of some time ago to Miss Susie Poole, they have resided in Macon County. He was about 75 years of age and one of the best known citizens of our county. He had lived a Christian life and a devoted member of the Methodist church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew Him, as he lived a beautiful and upright life; a good neighbor and of honorable character. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mrs. J.J. Larkin, two sons, Messrs Walter and Oscar Larkin, five daughters: Mrs. Bob Robinson, Mrs. John Robinson, Mrs. George Robinson, Mrs. Elijah Taylor, all of whom reside near him and one single daughter, Mrs. Willa Larkin who resides at home with her mother. How sad we feel to know that she and her dear mother are left there so lonely, no companion, no father with them in their lonely hours of sadness, only our Heavenly Father, but praise His name, to the highest for he will hear them and comfort their sorrows. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted, but they loved him and how they will miss him. His remains were laid to rest in the Payne cemetery. Burial services were conducted by Rev. B. L. Jordon. " But he's gone now His footsteps no more to return But he is safe in the arms of Jesus There to wear a golden crown But we long some day to meet him In that home beyond the sky There we shall live and reign with Jesus Where none else will ever die" -Written by a friend Additional Comments: The Friday April 25th,1924 issue included that he was a member of Corinth Methodist Church and had lived all 75 years in the county, except one year in Texas. He was a song leader of that church and enjoyed the singing conventions which he attended.
