HENRY LUMPKIN Conducted from the First Methodist Church The funeral services of Mr. J. Henry Lumpkin, who passed away at a late hour Sunday evening, were conducted Monday afternoon from First Methodist church, the auditorium being filled with sorrowing friends joining in this final tribute. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.P. Wardlaw. A selected program of music was rendered, and the services throughout were most impressive. Many very beautiful floral emblems covered the broadcloth draped casket. Besides the active pallbearers, Messrs. Charles R. Crisp, Zach Childers, L.G. Connell, John Sheffield, O.L. Dixon, W.G. Turpin, J.H. Hagerty and T.F. Callaway, there was a large escort of homorary pallbearers, intimate friends of the deceased. The Americus bar, of which Mr. Lumpkin had for twenty years been a prominent member, attended the services in a body. The services were concluded later at Oakgrove Cemetery. The death of Mr. Lumpkin, resulting from a stroke of pparalysis received recently, is deeply deplored in Americus, where he had so long resided and was esteemed among all. Stricken in the prime of manhood, his demise is sad indeed. Mr. Lumpkin was reared in Schley county but for many years has resided in Americus. As a lawyer he stood in the front ranks of the profession in south Georgia. He was county attorney, and also city attorney until he resigned the latter office a year ago. Mr. Lumpkin was serving his first term as one of Sumter's representatives in the house. Only a few months ago the death angel hovered his home, taking therefrom the beloved wife and mother. Three little children, two manly boys and a baby sister, are now left without mother or father, though tender hands will direct and guide them. Mr. Lumpkin's only immediate relative is his half brother, Sheriff Lumpkin of Schley county. A delegation from Ellaville attended the funeral services here yesterday.
