Sears, the funeral of little Verdie Lightner, daughter of Mrs. J.S. Lightner, was held and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Rev. L.B. Johnson, of Plains, conducted the services assisted by Rev. B.L. Jordan, pastor of the Methodist church here. A quartette composed of four of Veride's little friends, Frances Arrington, Lillian Rainey, Emma Gene Battle, and Ruth McNeal, sang her favorite song, "I'll Be a Sunbeam for Jesus," and the little girl's Sunday School class with a few other little friends acted as honorary pall bearers. Many beautiful flowers spoke silently of the great love for this little girl who so early in life has joined the choir invisible and is now singing with the angels. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery here beside those of her father, the lamented Dr. J(oel) S(tephen) Lightner, who died but fourteen months ago. May the good Lord who doeth all things well comfort those so sorely bereaved. They have the sympathy of the entire town and country in their sorrow.
