(Bill) Manning LIthonia, GA Former Ellaville resident, W.A.(Bill) Manning, 80, of Lithonia, died Monday at Bay Medical Center, Panama City, FL. A graveside service will be at 2 P.M. Thursday at Ellaville Cemetery, according to Giddens Funeral Home, Ellaville. Mr. Manning was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Sumter County, GA, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Manning. He lived in Lithonia for 25 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW2 and was former owner and operator of the Gulf Service Station in Ellaville before WW2. He was a member of the Ellaville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Eugenia, a daughter, Emily Ann Manning of Lithonia, a son, Robert Simpson Manning of Austin, TX, a brother, Norman E. Manning of St. Petersburg Beach, FL, and two sisters, Hilda M. Foos of Ellaville and Martha Jane M. Weaver of Americus. Additional Comments: Bill's wife, Eugenia Davis Manning, was born on June 14, 1919, and died July 6th, 1994. She is buried beside Bill in the Ellaville City Cemetery. Bills "service" had to be held at Giddens Funeral Home rather than at graveside. It had rained SO hard, we had to wait until the burial site was dry enough to "lower" him into the grave. The family waited at the funeral home and visited with friends. Bill was born August 28, 1910, in Sumter County, Ga. (between Americus and Ellaville). After returning from service with the Navy on a patrol craft in the Caribbean area, he moved to Atlanta and became an employee of the U. S. Postal Service as a railway mail carrier . He married Eugenia Pauline Davis in Aug., 1947, and they had two children, Emily and Robert. Bill and his family lived in the Atlanta area until his death in May, 1991, at Panama City, Fla., while visiting daughter Emily.
