MCCORKLE PASSES FRIDAY Jabez McCorkle, 73, former Marion county tax collector and a prominent retired farmer, died Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his home near Tazewell after an illness of four days. Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday morning at 11 o'clock with Elder M.W. Walker of Middleton, Ga., officiating. Burial was in Ramah cemetery at Buena Vista. A native of Marion county, Mr. McCorkle served as tax collector for 11 years, completing an unexpired term and two full terms. When the offices of tax collector and receiver were combined, he did not seek re-election. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Primitive Baptist church for more than 40 years, and was a leader in its activities. Surviving besides his widow, the former Miss Ida Welch, are three daughters, Mrs. A.T. Benson, Buena Vista; Mrs. Nell Hogg, Atlanta, and Miss Unis McCorkle, of Marion county; three sons, Elder S.H. McCorkle, Ellaville and Jabez McCorkle, Jr., Tazewell. Active pallbearers were Andrew, Robert, Riner, Respess, George and J.C. McCorkle. An honorary escort included C.M. Clements, William Wooten, William Parker, H.T. Chapman, George Lowe and T.E. Chapman.
