Morrison, 64, tax collector of Schley county for the past 16 years, a lifelong farmer and leader in fraternal circles, died unexpectedly at his home here Wednesday of a heart attack at 10:05 o'clock. Stricken July 22 with his first illness in 25 years, Mr. Morrison had been thought recovering and had been active about his home all morning until seized by an attack shortly before his death. Sorrowing relatives and friends overflowed the Methodist church Thursday afternoon to pay him final tribute at a brief funeral service. The Rev. W.S. Johnson, the Rev. Hugh Dozier and the Rev. Charles D. Carter officiated. Full Masonic rites were administered. Born in Schley county, February 13, 1876, Mr. Morrison lived here his entire life. He married Miss Eunice Dyess of Schley county April 16, 1905, and seven children were born to them. She died in January 1931. His second wife was Mrs. Doshia Purvis of Charing, whom he married April 16, 1934. He was a member of the Methodist church. Always keenly interested in sports, Mr. Morrison was a star first baseman for the local team during the '90's and early years of this century when baseball flourished here. He was fond of recalling the 1903-04 club which conquered all opposition it could find, and generally is regarded the strongest the town ever produced. A charter member of the Knights of Pythias and the Washington Masonic Lodge No. 359, Mr. Morrison had held the highest offices of both organizations. He attended state conventions and took an active part in all fraternal work. First elected tax collector in 1924, he was unopposed last March for a fifth four-year term. Mr. Morrison was best known for his wish to befriend everyone he knew to be ill, of in trouble. This desire sent him on errands of mercy to persons of all walks of life regardless of the hour or the weather. Surviving include his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Rhodes, Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Henrietta Morrison, of Oglethorpe; five sons, Henry, Los Angeles, Cal.; J.B., of Texas; George and Hugh, both of Ellaville, and Bill, of Elkton, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Miss Lillian Purvis, Ellaville; Mrs. Cleatus Hill, Charing; Mrs. Howard Montgomery, Charing; three stepsons, Dudley, James and Marvin Purvis; all of Ellaville.
