J.M. MURRAY PAID LAST TRIBUTE Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday morning at 11 o'clock for Mrs. J.M. Murray, 86, beloved Ellaville woman, who died Saturday night at 8:50 o'clock after a lingering illness. Elder Hassell McCorkle officiated and was assisted by the Rev. C.D. Carter and the Rev. Hugh Dozier. Burial was in Ellaville cemetery. Born March 6, 1855, she was the former Miss Mary Lightner, widow of Elder James Munro Murray, who before his death 11 years ago was one of this section's outstanding Primitive Baptist ministers. He also served as clerk of Superior Court of Schley county for many years. She and Mr. Murray were married in 1884 and had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary before his passing. A member of the Philipi Primitive Baptist church in Schley county, of which her husband was pastor for many years, Mrs. Murray took deep interest in its activities. Considerable attention was attracted two years ago by a feature story in The Sun relating her record of having carried or sent dinner to Phillippi's annual three-day "July meeting" for 65 consecutive years. Always in good health, she had rarely missed a meeting. Mrs. Murray attributed her long and healthy life to eating of good substantial foods and providential blessings. Survivors include six sons, Dr. James, S.L. and George P. Murray, all of Atlanta; T.O. Murray, Bessemer, Ala.; Joe and Harry Murray, both of Ellaville; three daughters, Mrs. Irene Gregory, Ellaville; Mrs. H.I. Poole, Sylvester, and Mrs. J.T. Webb, Sumter City, Ga.; 25 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Active pallbearers were J.H. Statham, H. Willis Hogg, S.M. Etheredge, J.M. Sandifer, C.S. Wall and C.L. Battle. Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers. They were Murray and Edwin Poole, J.T. Webb, Jr., T.O. Murray, Jr., G.P. Murray, Jr., and Tomroe Murray.
