NELSON, 54 Funeral services were held at Ideal Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock for J.W. Nelson, 54, prominent Ideal business man, community leader and former legislator, who died Friday afternoon at a Montezuma hospital. He had been stricken with a heart attack the preceding Sunday. A former state senator and member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Nelson had spent his entire life in Macon county. He had lived in Ideal for the past 30 years and was an influential factor in the development of the city, having served as mayor for many years. He was chairman of the board of trustees of the Ideal school and a member of the Macon county board of education. He was engaged in the warehouse business and had large farming interests. Surviving are his wife the former Alice Lightner; a son, J.W. Nelson, Jr.; two daughters, Miss Harriet Nelson and Mrs. W.A. Bedingfield, all of Ideal; a sister, Dr. Sara Nelson of Oglethorpe and brother Robert Nelson of Brooklyn, N.Y.
