L. Owen, 77, Dies Monday; Rites Tuesday Robert Lee Owen, 77, prominent retired Schley County farmer, died at Prather Clinic, Americus Monday at 12:30 a.m. after a critical illness following an operation three weeks ago. A native of Harris County, Mr. Owen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Lee Owen. When a young man he was employed in the area for a number of years by the Central Railway. In 1898 Mr. Owen married Miss Elizabeth Mae Rainey, who died 20 years ago. He was a farmer for most of his life. For more than a year he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Jesse McLendon and Mr. McLendon. Mr. Owen had been a Mason for at least 50 years. He was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hopewell church. The Rev. W. H. Ansley, of Byromville, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. T. M. Lee. Burial was in the church cemetery with members of Washington Lodge No. 359 (F. and A.M. in charge. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jesse McLendon, Schley County; Mrs. Vera Guy, Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, R. B. Owen, Columbus; W. R. Owen, Jacksonville, Fla., and James H. Owen, El Reno, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren and three (great) grandchildren. Pallbearers were Paul Gill, Luther Justice, M. C. Hill, B. E. Pelham, Paul Coffin, and Nelson Pilcher.
