The Atlanta Constitution

The Atlanta Constitution  April 2, 1886

Hon. J.N. Hudson, of Schley county, died at his home near Ellaville, on Friday 
night, after a protracted illness.  One of the saddest scenes ever witnessed 
was enacted at his bedside Monday of last week.  He had suddenly roused up 
from a long stupor, and called his wife and children to his bedside.  With 
words of love and tenderness he bade them goodbye, blessing and giving his 
dying benediction to each one.  He took his little baby in his arms, and with 
tears in his eyes and a faltering voice, kissed it and returned it to its 
mother's arms, giving her clear and explicit directions as to the way he would 
like it reared, told them how he would like to be buried, and the disposition 
on his property.  After it was all over he quietly turned over and sank into 
unconsciousness, from which he awakened a few minutes the nest morning.
