HARRY PEACOCK PASSES WEDNESDAY Mr. Harry A. Peacock, 67, prominent merchant store salesman and a member of a leading family, died in his sleep at his home at the Peacock hotel Tuesday night. His death was discovered shortly after 12 o'clock Wednesday when his sister, Mrs. John Cheney investigated after several calls to his room during the morning by a man had brought no response. While Mr. Peacock had been in poor health for sometime, he had not been ill. A native of Ellaville, Mr. Peacock was the son of Capt. Caleb Peacock, a Confederate officer, and Mrs. Louise Peacock. He spent his entire life in Ellaville and Ideal, where he was engaged in the mercantile business. In recent years, after his retirement from enterprises of his own, he had been employed by Arrington's and Ellaville Hardware company here. On June 20, 1917, he married Miss Willie Maude Watkins, of Garden Valley, in Macon county, who died three years ago. He was a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Peacock was an esteemed citizen whose quiet manner and qualities of honesty and faithfulness won him many friends. His only son, Harry Peacock, Jr., who visited him about three weeks (ago?), was somewhere in the Pacific with the Navy and could not be reached. Other survivors are a brother, Darcy, Rome; three sisters, Miss Julia peacock and Mrs. John Cheney, both of Ellaville, and Mrs. Aldine McGowan of Atlanta. Funeral services were held at the Peacock Hotel Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock with the Rev. E.L. Jenkins of Ideal, officiating. Burial was in Ellaville cemetery. Pallbearers were M.J. and H.B. Arrington, James H. Hart, W.A. Murray, C.T. Rainey and Howard Park of Ideal.
