Funeral services were held Tuesday June 24, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ellaville Methodist Church with the Rev. Asbury Walton officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ellaville Mausoleum. Mr. Peede was born in Macon County on May 19, 1922 to Flurry Gilbert Peede and Pearl Wicker Peede. He moved to Schley County in 1946, following his service in the U.S. Navy in World War II, where he served in both the European and Pacific theatres. He was a farmer from 1946 to 1968 when he was elected Schley County Tax Commissioner. He retired in 1988 and continued his farming interests. He was a member of the Ellaville Methodist Church for almost 50 years, where he served on the Board of Stewards for many years. He was a member and former Commander of Thomas Edwin Wall Post # 191, American Legion, Ellaville, and a member of the Washington Lodge # 359 F&AM, where he served as Worshipful Master. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Halstead Peede, Ellaville; two daughters, Cindy P. Sellars and Susan P. Ellis; both of Ellaville; one son, Carl W. Peede, Redmond, Washington; one brother F. Wicker Peede, Lumber City; one sister, Hilda P. Bishop, Albany; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Atkins, Lee Hardison, Eddie Peede, Louie F. Peede, Otis Smith, Pierce Dickens and Donald Belt. Members of the Thomas Edwin Wall Post # 191, American Legion, Ellaville were the honorary pallbearers. Giddens Funeral Home of Ellaville was in charge of arrangements.
