J.M. PERSONS, 57, IS PAID TRIBUTE
Prominent Schley Farmer Dies After Extended Illness
Funeral services for Mr. J.M. Persons, 57, promiment Schley county farmer who 
died in an Atlanta hospital Monday night after a long illness, were conducted 
from Hopewell Methodist church Wednesday afternoon ay 3 o'clock.

Ill for the past seven months, Mr. Persons died at Piedmont hospital where he 
had been undergoing treatment for a long period.

AQ native of Marion county, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Prsons, pioneer 
residents of that county.  He married Miss Ellie Snipres in December 1904, and 
moved to Schley several weeks later.  He was a member of the Methodist church.

His pastor, the Rev. W.S. Hohnson; the Rev. R.C. Howard, the Rev. J.E. 
Channell and the Rev. W.W. Whaley of Oglethorpe officiated at the funeral.  
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving are hsi widow; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Turner of Schley county 
and Miss Minnie Persons of Atlanta, a grandson, Jimmy Turner; his mother, Mrs. 
J.M. Persons, Haines City, Fla.; four brothers, George, Kissimmee, FL; Cleve, 
Punta Gorda, Fla.; Joe, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Charlie, Fort Meyers, Fla.; 
four sisters, Mrs. W.A. Cook, Haines City, Fla.; Mrs. j.D. Pierce, Arcadia, 
Fla.; Mrs. J.H. Statham, Moultrie, and Mrs. Charles Hogg, Americus.

Active pallbearers were:  Eugene Snipes, Dary Snipes, Parker Wells, Bob 
Donnan, Ernest Snipes, and Bob Snipes.
