The Schley County News  Thursday, July 7, 1904 
DEATH OF MR. WM. PILCHER Mr. William Pilcher of the
Andrew Chapel neighborhood, just over the county line,
died last Monday night about 6 o'clock.  His death came
as a surprize to all, as his general health was good.  It
would seem that he ate some water melon on Sunday and it
didn't agree with him;  still, none of the family looked
upon his condition as being serious, until late Monday
afternoon when he rapidly began to grow worse.  The
physician was summoned, but before the home was reached
Mr. Pilcher was dead.  In his death the community loses a
good neighbor and Sumter county a worthy citizen.
