A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Lee Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Stewart officiating. A Confederate graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Andersonville National Historic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the family residence at 111 Quail Trail from 6-8 p.m. today and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Born Oct. 24, 1940 in Ellaville, Mr. Pilcher was the son of Emory Nelson Pilcher and Evelyn Pratt Pilcher. His paternal grandparents were the Rev. W.G. Pilcher and Mae Nelson Pilcher. Maternal grandparents were Joseph Pratt and Mattie Hauser Pratt. Mr. Pilcher graduated from Ellaville High School in 1959, then attended Georgia Southwestern College until 1962 when he transferred to the University of Georgia and obtained a bachelor of science degree in 1964. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1969 where he attained the rank of captain. He was assigned to various overseas and U.S. bases. After completing his military service, he graduated in one of the first classes in data processing offered by Control Data Institute in Atlanta. In 1999, Mr. Pilcher retired from the state of Ga. where he was a project leader supervising data processing for the Dept. of Administrative Services. He also received a juris doctor degree from Woodrow Wilson School of Law. He was a member of the Lee S. United Methodist Church and enjoyed a lifelong hobby in amateur ham radio. Survivors include his wife, Lucile McDougald Pilcher of Americus; two daughters, Susan Crayden and Richard of Gulfport, Miss. and Telisa Woodard of Sanford, Fla.; two sons, Walter (Bubba) Woodard of Camden, SC. and Charles (Jerry) Woodard of Sanford, Fla.; sister, Mary Margaret Stewart of St. George Island, Fla. and a daughter-in-law, Mona Hopson and Rob of Williston, Fla. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Thomas Bryant, Katlin Bryant, William Crayden and Wesley Crayden of Gulfport, Miss., Cassie Woodard of Sanford, Fla.; Griffin Woodard and wife Trista of Ocala, Fla., Rita Inman and husband, Jared and Forrest Woodard all of Williston, Fla., Tracey Woodard and Becky Woodard of Sanford, Fla. Also surviving are, great-grandmother, Emily Elizabeth Woodard of Williston, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Paul McDougald of Americus, George McDougald and wife Marlene of Rochelle, Charles McDougald and wife Charito of San Francisco and a sister, Helen McGoldrick and husband Jack of Rutledge, Tenn. as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lee Street Methodist Church Organ Fund, P.O. Box 922, Americus, GA. 31709 or to Sumter Humane Society, 702 Magnolia St., Americus, GA. 31709. Pilcher, and Bobby Tondee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tondee. The service took place at the home of Mrs. W.G. Pilcher, with the Rev. Roy J. Bond officiating.
