Powell(great granddaughter of Elbert & Nancy Catherine Murray Hill) The graveside funeral service of Mrs. Martha S. Powell of Leesburg, who died on Friday, May 31, 2002 at her home after a long illness, was conducted Monday, June 3, 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Willis Wallace and Ross Powell officiated. A native of Schley County, Mrs. Powell was born on June 21, 1914 at her parents home in Ellaville. She was the daughter of the late Essie Wilson Strange(daughter of William Benjamin and Mary Julia Hill Wilson) and Robert Hill Strange. Mrs. Powell attended Georgia Southwestern University and Valdosta State University where she received her teaching degree. She taught in Taylor, Schley, and Lee Counties for a total of 43 years. She was gifted with a rare talent of knowing how to relate to and motivate young children and in turn, her students loved her and found her enthusiasm contagious. Mrs Powell was the widow of John Albert Powell. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Powell of Cordele; a daughter, Judy C. Powell of Leesburg; a sister, Juliette Terry of Ellaville; and a granddaughter and her husband Cyndi and Dan Daniel of Leesburg. The family is at the residence of Judy Powell, 127 A. Starksville St., Leesburg, Ga 31763. In lier of flowers, those desiring, may make contributions to Albany Community Hospice, the Leesburg United Methodist Church or the Albany YMCA.
