Sears Burned Saturday Night. Dies Sunday Morning. Our quiet village was shocked Sunday morning with the announcement that death was hovering over the body of "Jodie Sears" and by seven o'clock his work was completed, and the spirit of our young friend had passed into the great Beyond, and a common sorrow spread throughout our community, and sympathy filled all hearts for those who was so crushingly bereaved. He is the only son of Dr. W.D. Sears, and he leaves a beloved and idolized wife, of only three weeks, fond parents, three devoted sisters and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Saturday evening all the children partook of their meal together at the dear old Homestead, as Mrs. Tucker Rainey and husband (his sister Imogene) were to leave in the morning for their Atlanta home; they were summoned to his room where he had just prepared for bed and was warming himself when he discovered his night robe was on fire. The terrible screams from pain and suffering brought the loved ones to him, where prompt medical aid was rendered but all of no avail. His devoted mother tried to comfort him that his life might be spared, but he affirmed that he could not live and even told her the "Pearly gate was opened" for his entrance into the Celestial City. All the afflicted ones have the sympathy and prayers of this people.
