The negro was badly mangled by the train, his condition being so serious that the doctors could do nothing except to appease his suffering until death came the following Monday afternoon. Several different theories were afloat as to how the darky came to be on the track at that time of night. Some think that he had met with foul play and was placed there by other, while it is the more general opinion that he was under the influence of whiskey and went to sleep on the track.
