Souter, one of Schley's oldest residents, died on last Saturday night at the home of his son, Mr. Monroe Souter, near Midway. Mr. Souter had passed his eightieth birthday, but was a well preserved man. He enjoyed the confidence of all who knew him and numbered his friends by the score. The sympathy of the News is extended to the bereaved ones. Additional Comments: Hinton Hambrick wrote the Souter family history found in the "History of Schley County." It relates the death date of John Wesley Souter (father of Monroe)as January 14, 1921. Using the birth date which that family history supplies he would have been 96 years old had he died in 1921. John Monroe Souter, the son mentioned in the above obituary, died Sept. 2, 1918, so he could not have been living if the 1921 date shown in the history book were correct. In fact the marker for John Wesley Souter found at County Line Methodist church just across the boudary in Macon county list a death date of January 14, 1912. The date in the history book is incorrect. It appears the numbers were transposed when it was printed.
