This came as a sad surprise to his many friends as but few of them had really learned that he was sick. He was the eldest son of Mr. Eli Stewart of this county, and was 51 years of age. He is survived by a wife and several children who shall receive the entire sympathy of our people. Funeral services and his burial was attended by a large number of friends and relatives at old Philipi church on last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.M. Murray. No marked grave for Bill Stewart is currently visable at Philippi church cemetery. This obituary would seem to indicate that he definitely was buried there. William T. Stewart, age 10, was the oldest child in the household of Eli Stewart on the 1870 census. Census records would indicate that he was the son of Eli and first wife, Carrie Rustin. He is still single and living with Eli in 1880. The 1900 census tells us much. He gives his birth date as Feb 1860. He is now married for 11 years to wife Carry and has 3 sons, Henry G., 10; Cleveland, 7 and Elma, 4. The 1910 census finds the family living in Lickskillet and the children are enumerated as William G(or M), 20; Eugene, 17; Elbert, 15 and James 5. Seems that the childrens names are different somewhat but the ages match and I believe to be the same family.
