Services were held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, May 4, 2003 in the Chapel of Watson Giddens Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion County. Reverend Mike Bond officiated. Mr. Welch was born March 10, 1925 in Marion County, GA, the son of Waley Welch, and Inez Storey Welch. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, he was employed by the Naval Air Station in Key West and Jacksonville, FL and then Southeastern Pneumatic, Inc. in Ellaville, GA. Mr. Welch was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mr. Welch is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frankie Welch, one son, James Oliver Welch of Key West, FL, three sisters, Ester Hambrick and Mary Ellen Jones of Ellaville, GA and Evelyn Wiggins of Americus, GA; one step sister, Sue Bradham of Ellaville, three grandchildren, James Welch, Jr., Jimmy Welch and Scarlet Henderson, and two step grandchildren, Glenda Profit and Edward Bell also survive. Pallbearers included Jimmy Storey, Alan Miller, Scott Cobb, Melvin Collins, Benny Wilder, Carvis Passmore, Wilbur Justice, Jerry Taylor and Ken McKinney. Watson-Giddens Funeral Home had charge of these arrangements.
