Womack of Clay county died last week at the advanced age of 82 years. Mr. Womack formerly lived in Ellaville and leaves many relatives in this county. He was a brother of Mrs. Maria McCrory. When this place was selected as the county seat it was Mr. Womack who suggested the name of Ellaville for the town. He was the first sheriff of Schley county, and was always held in high esteem by his neighbors. Additional Comments: Alfred Womack was sheriff of Schley county from March 18, 1858 to January 10, 1860.
