Ellaville. This short piece by Linda Adams recently appeared in the Tri-County Journal & Chattahoochee Chronicle. They published this photo and asked readers if they could identify the men pictured. Below is their response. We post it here courtesy of the Journal. "Blast From The Past" CHECKERS PLAYERS IDENTIFIED by Linda Adams The photo of the men playing checkers in front of the Schley County Courthouse drew quite a few suggestions as to the identities of the participants and the spectators. The players are Dr. Stewart on the left and R.C. Brooks on the right. Brooks has a car dealership on East Oglethorpe. The man sitting behind Dr. Stewart was identified by two different sources as Hilly Johnson or Folice James. The man sitting beyond brooks could be Will Sellars, although his daughter-in-law said "that he never had a hat like that." The man whose head is not included in the photo has definitely been identified as Alvin Snipes by a reliable source who was once his neighbor. The gentleman standing beyond Brooks could be Clate Wall. Do you have an old photograph you'd like to submit as a "Blast from the Past"? Mail it to us at The Tri-County Journal, P.O.
