Royal and Frankie Reed) to Anna Belle McCrory was almost certainly mailed from LaGrange, Ga. to Ellaville on Sept 14, 1909. The photo on the front of the card probably dates to 1906-08 as Royal Bros. cotton warehouse was not a long term business. This short piece from the Schley County News of Thursday, Jan. 17, 1908....... Royal Bros., after several years of successful partnership have recently disolved, Mr. S(tephen) A. Royal purchasing Mr. J.T. Royal's interest. As to the date of mailing of the card.........The post mark visably states Sept. 14, 190? The last digit is missing or unreadable, but the following short piece from the paper pinpoints the date as 1909. The Schley County News Friday, Sept. 10, 1909 No. 35 Misses Bobie and Minnie Royal leave Monday for LaGrange, where they will enter College. Bobie Royal and Anna Belle McCrory were close friends and classmates for several years prior to this date, having attended Wesleyan college together and several music classes. Additional Comments: The handwritten message of the post card reads as follows: "Dear Girl I am at last settled down for another year of hard work as a Junior. I have every period full not a vacant one all day long just with literary work- Can't you sympathize? Mr. Leon said if I wasn't dead by Xmas I couldn't be killed. Write me a long letter & I'll sure (switching to handwriting on front of card) appreciate it and answer as soon as possible. We are in a cozy little room for two and delighted with taecher on our hall. ......makes me think of another. Remember, Bobbie Bobbie Bobbie Royal is found on the 1910 census in Bullock Co. working as a music teacher. Interesting to note are the other bldgs. in the photo. According to the postcard the next bldg. west is J.B. Williams' Dept. Store and the last bldg. visable on the street (with the tree in front) bares a striking resemblance to another photo in the Schley archives that until now was unidentified. It would be located on what is now church street and was I believe the Belmont Hotel and later called Points West. Compare with the other photo at http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/photos/ph2335ellavill.jpg Note the tree is much smaller in this old photo so if this is an accurate assumption then this cotton wagon photo predates the postcard by several years. Many thanks to Steve & Rebecca Gurr for sharing this photo and to Ernie Jones for facilitating it's use and help in researching it.
