Ethridge Additional Comments: This is an interesting document. It is not dated nor is it identified. It is on the back side of a jury verdict in the case of J.H. McElmurray vs. A.S. Chapman. That case was in 1882 and was significant as it identified the location of the court as being "St. Elmo." We know St. Elmo today as the Concord community of Schley county. It appears to be a voter list for some time prior to June 10, 1882 and I can attest, from the names on the list, that this was from that very same district which was then known as Patton Hill. In other words, they used the other side of this old voter list to record the jury verdict probably to conserve on paper, or perhaps they had none at this time. The paper was cut down to fit the verdict and therefore many of the names were cut off. But what remains is very interesting. A few observations from my personal knowledge. Number 107, Anderson Stewart was a black man who preached frequently at Philippi Primitive Baptist church and later was instrumental in seeding a black church known as Rocky Hill Primitive church, which is nearby and exists yet today. Number 83, John Floyd was the father of my great grandfather's 4th wife Camiila Floyd Hill. They were enumerated in Schley county on the 1880 census and she married my great grandfather Hamilton Henry Hill in January 1890 in Taylor Co., must probably just across the line from Schley. Number 112, is David Apperson, pastor of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist church near the Taylor Co. line. Many other names are familiar to me and others make me pause to question. I welcome information on the other individuals.
