Document Located In Ellaville City Hall Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/photos/documents/1902mapc22744ph.jpg Image file size: 277.7 Kb For perhaps at least 5 years, I have sought a map of the City of Ellaville that indicated the original lot numbers for the core of the city, to no avail. Linda Adams located this sketch made by Dr. Chesterfield Harrell Smith who began his practice in Pond Town a short time after his graduation from medical school in Savannah in 1855. According to the "History of Schley County, Dr. Smith and C.B. Strange were commissioned to draw a map of the town to be known as Ellaville and lay it off. Ellaville was incorporated on Nov. 23, 1859. The sketch presented here is not Dr. Smith's sketch from that era, but one he did in 1902. Numerous attempts to photograph it by some pretty accomplished photographers were unsuccessful as the map is under plexiglass and reflects flashes. What is presented here is another sketch copied by yours truly and I hope that I have accurately represnted what I saw while visiting Ellaville in early November of 2008. I hope it will be of some help to those that research land deeds for numbered lots in the City of Ellaville.
