STATE OF GEORGIA
SCHLEY COUNTY

We Peyton C. Edge as principal and Putnam S. Stevens as security, both of said 
state and county acknowledge ourselves held and bound to his Excellency Joseph 
E. Brown, Governor of said State for the time being and his succesors in 
office in the sum of five hundred dollars subject nto the following 
conditions.  

The condition of the above obligation is such whereas said Peyton C. Edge has 
been arrested by virtue of a warrant for assault and battery issued at the 
insistance of John Mauk and whereas C.B. Strange a Justice of the Peace in and 
for said County before whom said warrant was returned upon the hearing thereof 
required the said Peyton C. Edge to give bond and security in the sum of five 
hundred dollars for his personal appearance at the next term of the Superior 
court to be held in and for said county.  Now should said Peyton C. Edge well 
and truly personally be and appear at the next Superior Court to be held in 
and for said county on the fourth Monday in October to answer such matters as 
shall be then and charged against him by John Mauk concerning assault and 
battery committed by him the said Peyton Edge on him the said Joahn Mauk and 
do not thence depart without leave of the court, then this obligation to be 
void otherwise of force.

one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said county, the 30th day of 
November last eighteen hundred and sixty one in said county, the said Peyton 
C. Edge being charged before the undersigned of said county with the crime of 
assault and battery.  The said Peyton C. Edge upon his examination now taken 
says...
