Additional Comments: I found this document of interest primarily because of the mention of St. Elmo as the location of the court in the 946th Georgia Militia District. We know that Stephen Murray's court house was located at what is today known as the Concord community (photo at http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/photos/concordc312nph.jpg ) and we also know that it was later referred to as Beulah and "Schley." This fits in the correct time frame for what little we know about St. Elmo. It is found on an 1881 map of Schley county which can be viewed at http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/photos/documents/ph2354schleyco.jpg Also of interest is the plaintiff in this action. James H. McElmurray was murdered by a negro man in 1886, just a few years after this proceeding. The death was later ruled justifiable homicide as self defense. James H. McElmurray is buried in an unmarked grave at Philippi cemetery very near what was once called St. Elmo.
