James H. Hart, chairman of the chapter, said cash contributions had reached $40, and emphasized the drive still is being conducted with a large proportion of citizens still unsolicited. Arrangements were completed Thursday for sponsoring a benefit dance at the Ellaville gymnasium next Thursday evening at 9:30 o'clock. Jinx Jennings and his 11- piece orchestra of Americus will furnish music. An advance ticket (sale) will be conducted with tickets available at Jordan's Drug Store, Wilson's Drug Store, the post office and from all rural letter carriers. Admission will be $1 per couple. Committees named by Hart to promote the dance included: Arrangements, Charles (Buddy) Battle, Paul Tondee, Byron Hill, T.H. Stevens, Jr., Charles Wall, Jr., Mrs. M.J. Arrington, Mrs. T.B. Johnson, Mrs. Paul Coffin, Mrs. Eugene Dixon and Mrs. S.T. Barnes; publicity, Charles Wall, Sr., and Raymond Duncan. This wire received by the Ellaville chapter Wednesday from Norman H. Davis, of Washington, D.C., national Red Cross chairman: "When American Red Cross asked minimum war relief fund ten million dollars no one could foresee that in two short weeks greatest tragedy in all history would be unfolded. Impossible to describe pitiful plight millions refugees in France. Sick, wounded, hungry and homeless, they cry out to us for help. Will need much more than ten million dollars, therefore quotas originally assigned should be regarded only as minimum immediate objectives. Chapters should then go on, and where possible, double their quotas. In fact, only limitation should be maximum generosity and American people. Wire reports, Wednesday and Saturdays. Girl Scouts wearing Red Cross nurse caps already have made a canvass of Ellaville, but many persons were missed. Anyone wishing to contribute may see Mr. Hart or Miss Margaret Souter, treasurer of the Red Cross chapter. Additional Comments: Hariette Hart Murray daughter of James H. Hart and sister of Jimmie Sue Hart, pictured in the Red Cross nurse outfit, sent in this photo after reading about the Girls Scouts of Ellaville soliciting for donations for war relief. Sue was undoubtedly on a mission for funds in this picture.
