Walker (shown above) of Andrew Chapel community in Schley county. (Sun Photo). WALKERS TO MARK 50TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Walker of Andrew Chapel community in Schley county looked back over 50 years of married life Thursday and agreed, "Marriage is like everything else---you have to work to make it work." The Walkers will mark their golden wedding anniversary Monday, the 20th, without celebration. "I wanted to have a barbecue and invite everybody," explained Mrs. Walker, "but Tom felt like it was too much for us to do---and he was right." They plan a turkey dinner, however, on Thanksgiving--three days later--when their three grandchildren will visit them. Their marriage November 20, 1889 climaxed a courtship begun in school days. He was Tom Walker, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Walker, and she was Mamie Taylor, 12 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Taylor when they first met at the school house and learned their homes were going to be but four miles apart. He was 22 and she was 18 when they married. Mrs. Walker spoke for both of them when she condemned modern day divorces. "Young folks nowadays just aren't accustomed to hardships," said "Miss Mamie." "When they meet the 'ups and downs' that come to every marriage they can't take them." The Walkers had six children, none of whom are living. They have three grandchildren, Miss Virginia Dozier, who teaches school at Waynesboro; Hugh Dozier, who works at a Griffin theatre, and Robert Dozier, a senior at Schley county high school, who makes his home with them. Mrs. Walker has two sisters, Mrs. W.M. Andrews of Americus, and Mrs. W.S. Andrews of Tampa. Fla.
