Mt. Vernon Methodist church according to the original "History of Schley 
County," by Mrs. H.J. Williams, "..... is possibly the oldest church in Schley 
county.  A graveyard at the west side of the church is well kept.  Within this 
enclosure people for more than a century perhaps, have been interred."

The church has been inactive for many years and indeed this structure no 
longer exists.
