Interest in the game--the most pretentious program ever planned here--mounted Thursday as merchants and business men had assured a Roman holiday flavor by agreeing to close shop for the contest. The exhibition begins at 3 o'clock, but a scrappy preliminary featuring boys' clubs of Schley County High School of Ellaville and Buena Vista High School has been arranged. The curtain-lifter starts at 2:30 o'clock. Customers throughout this section hailed the Ellaville Athletic Association's decision to establish popular prices for the game. Adult tickets, placed on sale yesterday afternoon, sell for 49 cents, while high school students and below will be admitted for 25 cents. Rising enthusiasm of local fans and reports from nearby towns led promoters of the match to advise customers to come early as an overflowing crowd appears certain. And that crowd will get a fine lesson in basketball. The Celtics, often called the Magicians of the Hardwood, know how to demonstrate their mastery in an interesting fashion, however. Passwork is their chief reliance and dazzling displays of their cleverness along this line hold major interest in their bag of tricks. All members of the club are dead shots--the crowd cheers when they miss one! With Davey Banks, the midget of the champs, showing the way, the New Yorkers enliven their performance with side-splitting. Banks likes to sit on the sidelines in a chair, receive a pass from a mate and flip in a field goal-- that sort of thing! Or sometimes he sinks a basket for the opposing club. Banks, Dutch Denhert and Pat Herlihy are real veterans of the outfit. Big Denhert, originator of the pivot play, is rounding out his twenty first year with the champions. Herlihy doesn't go in for the comedy acts but is a past master at the art of shooting and passing. Paul Birch, one time Duquesne University star, is playing his third season with the barnstormers and is upholding the Celtic standard. Bob McDermott, Long Island University great, is appearing his second season and is a long- range hoopman they say can't be guarded. Rusty Sanders is another newcomer with the Celts. Opposing the champions will be the spirited Ellavilles, recognized as one of the better independent clubs in this section. They have held their own against the state's finest opposition this season--losing several decisions, but winning many stunning victories. Theirs is a smooth combination possessing a fine degree of accomplishment in all departments. They are not expected to stay in there with the champs.
