CHAPMANS PLAN CELEBRATION OF GOLDEN WEDDING Never say anything to your husband you wouldn't want him to say to you. That's all there is to getting along. That is what Mrs. R.N. Chapman of Concord community in Schley county says. And her husband agrees. They should know what they are talking about, for they have been testing the idea for 50 years. The Chapmans celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday with a family reunion at their home. They met in Marion county when both were 18. "I couldn't do anything with him," recalls Mrs. Chapman. "We lived only a mile apart and he wanted to come to see me every week. I told him everybody would tease me if he came so often!" "Now," she adds with a smile, "they come to see a girl every night." She was Anna McCorkle, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. McCorkle. They were married in the evening of November 26, 1889. Mr. Chapman tells of how "the boys serenaded us that night by 'shooting anvils' ". A popular sport in the old days, this was done by placing two anvils together and filling the hollow with gunpowder and igniting it. The explosion could be heard for miles. Both say they don't believe any two people can live together for half a century without having a disagreement, but declare that always remembering never to say anything to your companion that you wouldn't want to hear yourself will see anyone through. The Chapmans have nine children: Mrs. B.H. Tucker, Wichita, Kansas; Herbert, Chester, Lewis Clyde and John T. Chapman, all of Macon; Wallace, Albany; Robert, Waveland, Miss.; Elton, Schley county; and seven grandchildren. Lewis Chapman married seven years ago on his parents' wedding anniversary, but selection of the date was a coincidence.
