No part of this listing may be used for commercial profit or gain. Walked and recorded by Mrs. Gregory A. Drexel [Carole Farr Drexel]. Please note: This is a record of the existing graves that were in the cemetery as of August 1, 1997, the date on which we buried my Grandmother Mary Leona Clark Farr. I have been unable to find the original plot listing. This church goes back as far as I can find to 1853, but the earliest date on any grave that I found was 1861. The outside of this cemetery is surrounded by a red brick wall which has a wrought iron gate. It matches other brick walled cemeteries in this area. There is room in this cemetery for there to have possibly been many earlier graves. If anyone has any further listings, please let me know. Also, if there are any errors, I apologize; please send on for me to update. For many, many years, our family’s great aunts, the Henderson ladies, Mrs. Mary Amanda Henderson Overstreet, and Miss Lottie Lee Henderson, took great care of this cemetery. It used to have beautiful azaleas which were brought from the old homestead of Marion County, Georgia, by one of its’ founders, Mrs. Mary Ann Young Henderson Cameron, and her daughter in law, Cynthia Ann Gray Brown Henderson, wife of Captain Wm. M. Henderson, CSA. Large, moss strung oak trees rustled in the breeze in the cemetery itself. These have all been removed now. When we were young, we were never allowed to play in the cemetery. But there were very regularl ‘Dinners on the Ground’ after Sunday morning church held under those trees. Mrs. Huldah Cail Smith Mingledorff, owner of Millhaven Plantation, later took great care of it. She is now deceased. She was one of the many nieces and nephews of the Henderson children. I am working on a history of the Church. If anyone can add or correct any of the following, please contact me. I am sure there is much of Oak Grove Church’s history and its’ wonderful families that I do not know, whose stories should be remembered and recorded for their descendants. Inside the old sanctuary there are many beautiful stained glass windows dedicated to the early families that helped start the church.
