This indenture made on this the 28th day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighty one between Martha Scott, widow of Dennis Scott, dced. and Martha Ann Scott, Caroline L. Powell wife of L. K. Powell, Laura J. Poythress wife of D. W. Poythress, Mary A. Scott, Frances D. Mills wife of S. B. Mills, Saphronia A. Reddick wife of Henry Reddick, William D. Arnett and George S. Arnett, grandsons of said Dennis Scott and Rosa L. Reddick wife of P. W. Reddick, and Mattie E. Arnett, grandaughter of said dced., all of the said parties of the said family of Screven in state aforesaid of the first part and John C. Scott of the County of Chatham and state aforesaid of the second part, witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars cash in hand paid them in hand by the said John C. Scott at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) both bargained sold aliened and conveyed and by these presents doth bargain sell alien and convey to the said John C. Scott his heirs and assigns all that tract of land situate, lying and being in the said county of Screven and the 34th district Georgia Militia containing one hundred and ninety (190) acres more or less adjoining lands of Mrs. Elizabeth Arnett, dced. and others on the north, lands of Davant and estate of Jacob H. Mills on the east, lands of S. B. Mills, H. R. Kenya (?), Scire Brown on the south, and lands of David Brown, dced. and others on the west (the tract of land herein conveyed being the tract of land upon which the said Dennis Scott was residing at the time of his death) to have and to hold the said tract of land to him the said John C. Scott, his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple with all the rights, titles, members and appurtenances thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining to his and their own proper use benefit and behoof. The said parties of the first part, for themselves, their heirs, administrators and executors the said bargained tract of land to the said John C. Scott his heirs and assigns will forever warrant and defend the right and title thereof, against themselves and the claims of all other persons in witness whereof the said parties of the first part hath, the day and year first above written set their hands and affixed their seals. State of Georgia Screven County Personally came before me the undersigned, one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said county, Henry Reddick, being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he saw Martha Scott, Martha A. Scott, Laura J. Poythress, Mary V. Scott, Saphronia Reddick, Frances D. Mills, Rosa C. Reddick and Mattie E. Arnett sign seal and deliver the within and foregoing deed for the purposes therein mentioned, that deponent subscribed the same as a witness in their presence and saw S. B. Mills do likewise.
