McCOY Hung for MILLER Murder
at Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia

Savannah, GA.,   June 28, --Robert
McCoy, colored, was hanged at Sylvania
today for murdering James Miller, a
white constable, on November 20, 1884.
Two thousand people witnessed the
execution, the gallows being erected
in an open field. McCoy's speech and
the religious exercises were similar to
those usually incident to such occassions.
McCoy's neck was broken by the fall,
and his death was apparently painless.
