All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Brenda King McNair McNair1978@msn.com June 11, 2003, 9:34 am The Post-Searchlight, Thursday, February 11, 1960, Bainbridge, Decatur Co., GA Dr. Cleveland Bridges Funeral services for Dr. Egbert Cleveland Bridges, prominent Donalsonville physician, were held January 31 in the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville at 3 o'clock with the Reverends Clifford Jett, Luther Hastey and Ralph McCaskill, Jr. officiating. Dr. Bridges died January 29 in the Donalsonville Hospital following a short illness. Son of the late W. Z. T. Bridges and Mary Elizabeth Bass, he was 73 years old at the time of his death. He attended Bethel College in Cuthbert, a Baptist School which was later renamed Mercer College. After two years at this college he entered Medical School at Louisville, Ky. and graduated in 1906. He started his medical practice at Reynoldsville and stayed there until World War II at which time he moved his office to Donalsonville. In 1907 he married the former Miss Susie Reynolds of the Reynoldsville Community. Two years ago following a heart attack, he closed his office, but had been seeing patients in his home in Donalsonville since then. He had practiced medicine for some 54 years. During World War II he also served on the Selective Service Draft Board for Seminole County. He was a Shriner and had received his fifty year Masonic membership pen in 1959. Four years ago he had received his fifty year gold pen for the practice of medicine. He had been engaged in farming ever since he began his medical practice. He had proved himself a true friend to men in all walks of life. Dr. Bridges was loved and respected by everyone, and the entire area mourns his passing. Dr. Bridges was a member of the Brinson Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Susie Reynolds Bridges, he is survived by three sons, Herbert and Champ Bridges, both of Donalsonville and Charles Bridges of Bainbridge; two daughters, Mrs. Carlton Sawyer, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. T. D. Tyson of Donalsonville and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Dozier of Damascus and Mrs. Nettie Coachman of Tampa, Fla. Eighteen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive. Those serving as active pallbearers were Yank Roberts, Kenneth Reynolds, Ralph Trawick, Arthur Reynolds, Leroy Durden, Joe Spooner, Willie Blackburn, George Odom, Dan White, Roscoe Burke, "Muggs" Burke and Porter Smith. Approximately 100 friends of the Bridges family served as an honorary escort. Burial followed in the Brinson Cemetery with Evans Funeral Home of Donalsonville in charge of arrangements.
