Spalding County GaArchives Census.....1940 Enumeration Districts by area. ************************************************ Copyright. Researchers will be able to search the 1940 Census using the public computers at National Archives facilities nationwide, or personal computers with Internet access. For general information on the census which includes a list of all of the questions asked go to this web site: http://www.archives.gov/research/census/1940/general-info.html#questions Remember as of right now, the census is NOT indexed by person. You have to know where your ancestor lived (enumeration district) in order to find any information. There are several volunteer projects that will begin in April 2012 to index by person. In the meantime knowing the Enumeration districts will be helpful and I have put them together below. Although the organized Georgia Militia is dead, the Georgia Militia Districts are very much alive and enter daily into the activities of all of Georgia citizens in anything connected with (1) the territorial jurisdiction of Justice of the Peace Courts; (2) the boundaries of election districts; (3) the return of property for taxation; (4) stock and fence laws; (5) the conveyancing of land in headright Counties; and (6) in all other circumstances specifically referred to in the laws of the Senate as presently codified. Within these militia districts are census "enumeration districts." So until the 1940 census is indexed by person, you will need to know approximately where your Pike ancestor lived, i.e., militia district and then enumeration district. Pike's enumeration districts will be online soon, also in the archives........Lynn Cunningham" below. 1930 E.D. 1940 E.D.
