Bullock, Gov. of Said State. WHEREAS, Reliable information has been received at this Department, that on the night of the 22d of August, ultimo, Dr. THOMAS H. BUTLER, and his wife were shot at and seriously wounded, at their residence in Spalding County, in this State, by a party or parties unknown; and that on the night of the 28th of August, ultimo, JOHN P. LOVETT, a citizen of Spalding County, was also shot at and seriously wounded by some person or persons unknown, while sitting in the plazza of his residence in said county of Spalding; and Whereas, It is alleged that one LEWIS TRAVIS, a notorious outlaw, and who is now an escaped prisoner from Spalding county jail, under a charge of felony, is the perpetrator of those crimes; and it being represented to me, that the civil officer of said county of Spalding have used every means in their power to apprehend the said Lewis Travis, but without avail; Now, therefore, I have thought proper to issue this, my proclamation, hereby offering a reward of One Thousand Dollars for the apprehension and delivery of the said Lewis Travis, with evidence sufficient to convict, to the Sheriff of said county of Spalding. And I do moreover charge and require all officers in this State, civil and military, to be vigilant in endeavoring to apprehend the said Lewis Travis, in order that he may be brought to trial for the crimes with which he stands charged. Given under my hand and the great seal of the State, at the Capitol in Atlanta, this 11th day of Sept., in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-Nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the Ninety- Fourth.
