Six Perish as Cars Pile Up

Griffin, Ga. (AP) - Six persons were killed and a seventh seriously injured 
when one car smashed broadside into another vehicle at a highway intersection 
yesterday.

The survivor, Jo Ann Hyde, 24, of Senoia, was in serious condition at a Griffin 
hospital.  Her parents, Archie G. Hyde, 56, and Virginia Lou Hyde, 47, and a 
sister, Elaine, 8, were killed.

Also killed were the three occupants of the other car - William Samuel 
Lunceford and James Alvin Howell, both 18, and Milton Whitlock, 23.

State Trooper O. V. Evans said the car driven by Lunceford ran a stop sign at 
a "high rate of speed" and struck the Hyde car.


Additional Comments:

The Hyde family were residents of Coweta Co., Georgia.  They are buried at 
Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Newnan, Coweta Co., Georgia.

Archie was the son of Joseph A. Hyde and Lillie Elmore.
