Griffin, Georgia, Sunday Morning, July 29, 1888 Killed by a Train on the Central Yesterday afternoon the down passenger, near the cooperation, ran over and killed George Evans, a colored laborer at the new factory. The facts are about as follows: The contractors had paid off their hands and all had started to town, walking on the railroad tracks. The train coming from Atlanta was passing and most of the workmen saw it and got off, but Evans either did see it or stepped on the cross ties outside of the track and thinking he was safer walked on, when the timber on the engine struck him, killing him instantly. The deceased was recently married here, was a good brick mason and had been employed in building the new factory. He came to Griffin from Atlanta.
